Pictures of the Yeat International

The Missouri School of Journalism’s Pictures of the Year International (POYi) program represents an unparalleled perspective on the American experience. For 64 years, the POYi photojournalism competition has recognized and collected the images that define and capture the news stories that shape our concept of the world.

POYi has begun an exciting and significant new chapter in partnership with the Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI). The primary mission for POYi this coming year is to expand the annual contest and explore options to further develop the 64-year historic archive of images. Building an archive will allow POYi to become a tremendous research tool for visual media theory, world history, sociology and many other studies.

POYi and RJI also seek to build an endowment through sponsorships, contributions and other endeavors. POYi has enormous potential to promote educational outreach programs and plans to advance its Web site as a forum to address issues concerning visual journalism.
